This is far and away the best icing recipe I have yet to use. It yields a shiny, flavorful, and perfectly smooth icing that is ideal for delicate layers and precise details.
- 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 4 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon light corn syrup
- 3/4 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
- food color, if desired
- Combine powdered sugar, water, butter, corn syrup and vanilla in small mixer bowl; mix until powdered sugar is moistened.
- Beat at medium speed until smooth, adding additional water if necessary, to reach desired glazing consistency.
- Tint with food color, if desired.
